چکیده

This study evaluated the kinetics of diauxic-like pattern biogas production from energy crops, Sunflower (SF) and Napier grass (NG) with cow dung (CD). The tests were performed in a batch reactor (R) operation for 60 days R1 - R4 53 R5 R8 under mesophilic conditions (24 36OC). characteristics tested crops suggest that they hold prospects bioenergy production. cumulative yield/gVS showed best performance was yield 15.17 dm3 (0.046 dm3/gVS) followed by R3, 13.90 (0.041 R2, 11.01dm3 (0.032 dm3/gVS). A significant difference (P ≤ 0.05) found reactors charged SF/CD as against SF only. In exhibited biphasic profile, two (2) kinetic parameters, K1 K2 determined bi-logistic function model. It observed predicted values second phase (K2) considerably higher than first (K1) R2 opposed to R6 R8, which implies more 2 1. results indicate anaerobic digestion NG had strong positive influence on yield, BP, PR λ1 but not λ2. model suitably fitted experimental data high correlation coefficient (R2) range 0.986 0.997. Based is well suited simulation process.

Opportunities for Napier Grass (Pennisetum purpureum) Improvement Using Molecular Genetics

Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach.) is a fast-growing perennial grass native to Sub-Saharan Africa that is widely grown across the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. It is a multipurpose forage crop, primarily used to feed cattle in cut and carry feeding systems. Characterization and diversity studies on a small collection of Napier grasses have identified a moderate level...

Assessment of genetic diversity in accessions of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) and napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum) using microsatellite (ISSR) markers

Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.) and napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach) are the most economically important species in the genus Pennisetum. Knowledge of genetic diversity of these two species would enhance their potentials for utilization. The present work assessed the genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationship among Nigerian and Indian accessions of pearl millet an...

Genetic diversity in Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum) cultivars: implications for breeding and conservation

Napier grass is an important forage crop for dairy production in the tropics; as such, its existing genetic diversity needs to be assessed for conservation. The current study assessed the genetic variation of Napier grass collections from selected regions in Eastern Africa and the International Livestock Research Institute Forage Germplasm-Ethiopia. The diversity of 281 cultivars was investigat...

Biotechnological application of sustainable biogas production through dry anaerobic digestion of Napier grass

Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum), represents an interesting substrate for biogas production. The research project evaluated biogas potential production from dry anaerobic digestion of Napier grass using batch experiment. To enhance the biogas production from ensiled Napier grass, thermal and alkaline pre-treatments were performed in batch mode. Alkali hydrolysis of Napier grass was performed...
